I want to dye my hair red.?

right now, my hair is dyed black but i want to dye it red. my oringal hair color is strawberry blonde and i think i might be able to keep the color alittle better because of that.

i know i have to bleach my hair before i even think about dying it again but i wanted to ask how far i would have to bleach it if i wanted to dye it ruby red and if anyone has any tips on keeping the color as vibrant as possible.

You are right, you will have to completely rid the black from your hair; otherwise you will get no color at all. I made the big mistake of dying my hair black one time.

Best wait a while to use any color on it but something soft blonde for awhile, and then try the red, if that is what you like. It's your choice, but I am concerned you may be damaging your hair a great deal.

You might want to use color removal first. Then, when you have dyed your hair, use special shampoos and conditioners for it.

You have to get the base color of your hair to the same level of lightness or one level lighter than your target color first. Bleaching it all the way out is very damaging and unnecessary if you would like to be red anyway.

Once you have gotten your hair to at least a red/orange, then you can tackle coloring it. Semi-permanant color may be a safer bet at this point because it has no ammonia and will be easier on your hair. Good luck!
