Black Hair- Red dye?

Ok, dyed my hair black about 3 months ago. It was a cheap bottle(around 5 bucks) but now I want red tips. SOooooo, Any chance this cheap bottle will fade the color off soon so I can hit up the red? Do I need to bleach my hair fully, go over the ends with red, then the rest in black? Try red dye anyway and hope it shows up over the black? Other products other than bleach that can remove the black? I don't want to go to a salon to do what I could prolly do for a hell of a lot cheaper.

If your hair is naturally very fair, if you found a gentle solvent that would remove the black dye without stripping your hair, you could do the tips red. As for the solvent, I have no idea.

If your hair is darker, the red won't show up unless you strip it, so you might as well go ahead and bleach the black out. Since you're doing the tips, the damaged hair won't have to hold up long.

color normally fades from the roots, not the tips. the red may be a little darker over black, but if it's any good it should work.

you might just have to bleach the ends, but just be careful. get someone to help you. then use the red on the ends. let me know if it works. i'm amazed the color hasn't faded yet (black). the red dye, depending on how dark the black is, won't show up very well over the dark black hair, but you don't need to bleach your whole head. after, make sure you use a good deep conditioner, because bleach can destroy the hair.

In my experience with black dyes, even cheap ones, it is the most difficult to take out of hair. If you dye red over the black, it will most likely come out with bright red roots and black elsewhere with a slight red sheen, depending on what sort of red you use. The best way to get the black dye out of your hair is, unfortunately, to use bleach on the sections of hair you want to re-do. You could try a darker blond and see where that gets you instead of going stark bleached blond, and the red should dye over that just fine.

okay first, just bleach the tips and then dye them red...the red will fade very fast so ull need to keep it up..u dont have to get rid of the black if u just want red tips.
