Hi, I want to dye my hair a deep, dark red, I've heard red fades quickly, how do you maintain d

I'm naturally a dark blonde. My goal is for a dark red, auburn colour. I'm concerned about keeping it looking red and hoped for some product tips or advice. Cheers!

With your hair being a dark blonde, I would probably get a red red protien filler and apply to the hair first, then find the red of your choice and apply the rest of the filler to it . Try going to Sally's they have some cool reds. Loreal has a mega reds line. If you go to Sally's you will not need anything higher than a 20vol. developer. Good Luck!!!!

You should get your hairdresser to put a filler into the colour that way it should hold better. After you get it dyed the red colour, don't wash your hair for about 2-3 days after it. I know it sounds disgusting but if you have to dampen it, just get a spray bottle and wet it a little. Anyway i hope it works for you. cheers

It will not stay in no mater what you do. My stylest said its the hardest to get to stay and for naturals hardest to get rid of!!!! I dyed my red and it came out even with all the salon care and products!!! The curse of the Blondie my stylest says!!!!

My friend dies her hair a dark red then uses a coloured moose over it to keep the colour vibrant. It always looks great.

my natural hair colour is a dark brown

and i dyed my hair dark red about 5 months ago

and it is still bright as ever in my hair.

but i sorta cheat....

i use a product that is a color shampoo

i forget the brand name, but the color is "fabulous red"

it basically re-distributes colour in your hair

you can find it at any store i bet

its only about $10

and its definitely worth it.

but the thing is dont use it every day and use it with a conditioner.

it will build up in your hair a bit, even if it is a shampoo,

so i would recommend using it every other day.

and definitely use it with conditioner,

always use conditioner when you dye your hair.

As a hairstylist, I would suggest going to a salon to have it colored because going from blond to a dark red can be difficult. But after that wash your hair with a shampoo for color treated hair and in cool water. The cooler the better. Also Paul Mitchell manks a wonderfull shampoo for red heads that has red pigment in it to keep your reds looking fresh. I use it eveyday and swear by it! Also, redken makes a color veil mist that you can use after you style your hair to block out uv rays from the sun, that also will help it from fading.

My hair is naturally dirty/dark blonde and every now and then I get red streaks put in. The hair dresser tells me the best thing to do is was your hair with cold water it won't fade the red as fast as if you use hot water on your hair.
