My Hair has been dies red about once a month for the last 6-7 months, I want to die it black. Recome

I've died my hair red for the last 6 or seven months (at home by myself) and have never had a problem, now i want to die it black or a really dark brown.

I've heard that red dyed hair doesnt easily take to any other color. Is this true?

What brand of hair dye do you recomend?

Going to a profesional is out of the question.

my hair use to be red and now its dark brown i have my licenses to do an my opinion is i would not do black because its the hardest to get out and color over. if you have a Sally's beauty supply near where u live go and get Loreal color or Clairol in the darkest brown that thay have don't get anything with a ash base and get a bottle of 20vol. cream developer if u have anymore questions please ask i don't mind answering
